Apparently my dedication to the gym (ocd) has become common knowledge at school. I'm now responsible for getting another teacher to come with me. It was nice to have someone to chat with on the treadmill. I can't wait 'til I can start running again-I don't feel like I'm getting a decent workout on the bike-and I don't really have the energy/mental power to stay on it for more than an hour. Only 3 weeks 'til I see the doctor again!!!

very nice.

if you don't mind, i have a couple of questions for you, seeing as you are the stress fracture expert. did you ever have a stress fracture in your tibia? and if so, what was the recovery time for you? any tips on the best ways to promote healing and ensure full recovery? how did you build back up into running once you were cleared to do so? sorry for all the questions. i'm just trying to get as much information as possible and i know you'll have some good insights on the subject. thanks.

Hey Allie,

That's usually where I get stress fractures. Recovery time depends on how bad the stress fracture is. If it's just starting, take a few weeks off and bike. If it's full blown, it took me a few months. I'd stay off it as much as possible-if I remember right don't even bike. Biking or swimming are probably the best things to do after a few weeks of healing though.

I broke my foot in December and I've been building back up slowly. I started with 12 minutes of running and added a minute every week 'til I hit 20, then 2 minutes 'til 30 and so on.

thanks so much! the doc says it wasn't too bad -- there wasn't a complete "black line" visible in the x-ray, which he said is when it is really bad. he also showed me the place on my bone where it had started to heal. i am biking right now, but sometimes the pedal motion causes pain in my shin (on a little bit) -- but i wonder if i shouldn't be biking at all if it is causing pain. the boot is a good idea. thanks again.
